The Diocese of Buffalo is as vast as it is diverse. We have 162 parishes and missions, utilizing 196 worship sites. We have 34 Catholic elementary schools, 12 Catholic high schools and seven Catholic colleges and universities. The diocese is also home to four Catholic Hospitals.

Through our parishes, Catholic schools, Catholic Charities, Catholic Health and countless other ministries, the Diocese of Buffalo lives out a mission of charity and service each and every day in the eight counties of Western New York.

The Catholic Center, located at 795 Main St., in downtown Buffalo, serves as headquarters for the diocesan-wide ministries of Buildings & Properties, Catholic Schools, Communications, Computer Services, Cultural Diversity, Diocesan Purchasing, Finance, Insurance Services, Parish Engagement, Pro-Life Activities, Research & Planning, the Safe Environment Program, Vocations and Worship.

The Chief Financial Officer establishes, evaluates, and advances policies, procedures, and programs for the financial administration of the Central Administrative Offices, parishes, and Catholic schools.


  • Develops finance organizational strategies by contributing financial and accounting information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction and establishing functional objectives in line with organizational objectives.
  • Provides direction and supervision for the finance, computer services, insurance services, and purchasing teams.
  • Oversees preparation of annual financial budget, adherence to the budget through the year, and submission of annual results in compliance with Canon Law.
  • Serves on independent organization boards and committees.


  • Required: BS in Business Administration or Finance/Accounting from an accredited college
  • Preferred: MBA and/or CPA
  • Ten or more years in accounting and financial management. Requires knowledge and training in a full range of accounting/financial matters, general business management, and an understanding of not-for-profit financials.
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial management software (e.g. SAP)
  • Ability to strategize and solve problems
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and people skills
