Finance Director - Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Diocese of La Crosse

The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, Wisconsin, is seeking to hire a Finance Director. The director will help to advance the mission of the Catholic Church and the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The director will be responsible for the administration of all financial activities in support of the Shrine.

BASIC FUNCTION

This position is responsible for the administration of all financial activities in support of the Shrine. This includes, but is not limited to, preparation of the annual budget; development of financial policies and procedures; provision of accurate financial reporting to the Board, the Executive Director, and all external agency representatives; and analysis of financial status of the Shrine on a periodic basis and reporting of issues of concern in a timely fashion. This position is also responsible for all general ledger systems, audit control, payroll, and materials purchasing activities and is the primary interface for management of the shrine’s computer and server systems. This position has primary responsibility for the maintenance of the Shrine’s donor program and security of confidential benefactor and financial records.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Develops financial policies and procedures for review and approval; implements processes to ensure compliance;
  • Monitors Shrine finances, including the accounting functions for accounts receivable, deposits, accounts payable, budgeting and reporting systems;
  • Monitors the receipt and disbursement of all Shrine funds, verifies the deposit and supply of cash and verifies the reconciliation of bank statements;
  • Prepares payroll for Shrine staff and maintains payroll information systems consistent with internal information requirements and government regulations;
  • Generates check preparation and pays all bills on a timely basis;
  • Maintains asset inventory for the Shrine;
  • Maintains the donor software and reporting system; provides reports to Executive Director and Board as requested;
  • Monitors donor pledges to ensure timely billing for payments;
  • Provides focal point for the purchasing of supplies and equipment;
  • Administers the Shrine’s insurance and staff benefit programs;
  • Administers the Shrine’s computer security and interfaces with third-party support sources;
  • Administers the financial component of all contracts from vendors, rental tenants, contractors and subcontractors, and artists;
  • Participates in religious and liturgical functions of the Shrine to include Holy Mass, as well as rosary, novena and other devotional practices;
  • Conducts tours for pilgrims, explaining the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the role of a Shrine according to the Catholic faith; Position Description Title: Finance Director Reports To: Executive Director
  • May present lectures at group gatherings, both at the Shrine and at other locations, to inform them of the Shrine, the apparitions, or other topics related to the religious nature of the Shrine;
  • Represents the Shrine in external gatherings and meetings as requested; and
  • Others duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

The incumbent must possess a bachelor degree in Finance or Accounting or have equivalent experience. A master’s degree and/or CPA designation is preferred. Incumbent must possess strong written and communication skills, as well as be able to develop tactical plans in support of the Shrine’s strategic vision. Knowledge of the doctrines of the Catholic faith and ability to interact with Pilgrims with respect to the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe is essential. The incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license in order to attend numerous meetings and execute various duties of the position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • General office environment;
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment, such as computer, internet, cash register, telephone and fax machines; and
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to drive to various locations as required.

This is an exempt position. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
