Mariluna is the Finance Officer Associate in the Diocese of Arecibo, Puerto Rico. She is responsible primarily for the general accounting of the Diocese’s main office, grant applications writing and monitoring, and the human resources assistant manager. Her functions involve interacting with other areas in the diocese such as Pastoral Vicariate, Superintendence of Catholic Schools, Religious Education Program, and the Diocesan Tribunal for which she does the bookkeeping. At the present, she is in the process of developing the diocesan and the parish financial management manuals for best practices.
Ms. Roman graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a BBA in Accounting and an MBA in International Business. She began her career as Accounting Manager in the retail business and later as a Senior Auditor in Scherrer Hernández & Co., CPA, PSC (now BDO Puerto Rico) where she performed multiple engagements in various industries such as consumer business, not-for-profit organizations, and financial and educational services. Later, she moved to New York and became an associate in Nomura Holding America where she prepared the financial statements for the broker-dealers and asset-management corporations, and the consolidated report for the Parent company. After moving back to Puerto Rico, she became a professor in the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico and in the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. She was also a consultant in several not-for-profit administrations where she coordinated the grant application process and monitored the funding.
