The Faculty of Canon Law of Saint Paul University announces several education opportunities scheduled for the coming academic year. These programs are designed and offered to assist those who have responsibility for the practical application of canon law concerning the administration of temporal goods--both in Canada and the United States.

1. Graduate Certificate in Canon Law with a concentration in Temporal Administration. This certificate offers 15 graduate credits in canon law, achieved by participating in three on-line courses and two week-long residential courses. The on-line courses are: General Norms of Canon Law, Dioceses and Bishops, Parishes and Pastors. The two residential courses are the two seminars listed below:
Temporal Goods of the Church, and Selected Issues in Church Property.

2. Seminar on Temporal Goods of the Church (18-22 January 2010) - This seminar will investigate the discipline of the Church on the acquisition, administration, retention, and alienation of ecclesiastical goods owned by dioceses, parishes, religious institutes, and various Catholic organizations. It will provide an in-depth understanding of the canons, particularly those found in Book V: The Temporal Goods of the Church of the 1983 Code of Canon Law, and of particular laws governing the care of ecclesiastical goods in Canada and the United States.

3. Seminar on Selected Issues on Church Property (15-20 March 2010) - This seminar will build upon the preceding seminar, which is recommended as a pre-requisite. It will apply ecclesiastical law on temporal goods to practical and challenging situations in Canada, the United States, and beyond by studying such situations as: financial administrative instructions/manuals; diocesan assessments and appeals; financial malfeasance; internal controls; clergy and religious issues; establishing juridic persons foundations and diocesan financial institutes; receiving/refusing gifts; conditional gifts wills and testaments; civil legal structures; modifications of parishes; roles of collaborative diocesan and parish structures, etc.
